Samsung to Build first Virtual Production Studio

Samsung has revealed that it has signed a partnership with CJ ENM TV and Film Production Group to use its MicroLED TV screens, known as The Wall, to develop virtual production studios.

CJ ENM Group is one of the world's most famous TV and movie producers and one of the largest in Asia, and the Korean film Parasite, which won the Oscar for Best Picture last year, is its production.

Production companies often use the green screen or chroma to film scenes that are difficult to photograph in nature and then edit them during the montage process and replace the green screen with natural scenes, and these touches are used often during films and series of science fiction or motion because of the difficulty of filming scenes on the ground or even Getting real shots in space or jumping between buildings, but that's about to change.

The partnership between Samsung and CJ ENM will equip filming locations or studios with giant screens through which scenes and effects are displayed during filming, thus obtaining more realistic shots while surrounding scenes on screens with actors.

MicroLED technology for The Wall screens will help equip studios with high flexibility, especially since its technology relies on assembling small screens next to each other and turning them into a large screen, and whenever the need for a larger screen increases, smaller screens are used to add it, whether it is horizontal, vertical or even circular.

Under the partnership, Samsung will contribute to the installation of a screen approximately 20 meters long and up to 7 meters high - that is, measuring 1,000 inches - inside CJ ENM Studios, and the screen will support content display with a resolution of up to 16K - content that is not yet available. The screen will also provide support for HDR10+ technology to provide greater image and depth, and will support a frame rate of 23.976 Hz, 29.97 Hz, and 59.94 Hz, to match the normal cameras for TV work and cinema cameras when shooting movies.

It is noteworthy that the use of virtual studios for filming television and cinema works constitutes a major shift in the production sector, as it contributes to dispensing with the traditional system of indoor studios with green screen, and provides high and consistent imaging quality and accuracy.
